TWSBI Mini AL Fountain Pen – Gold
The TWSBI Mini is a smaller version of the popular Diamond 580 Fountain Pen. Although this pen appears small when closed, it features threads on the back, which makes it possible to screw the cap on the back. This brings the size of the pen up to a very comfortable length, and makes it great to carry in your pocket.
The Mini is a piston filling pen. This means that a converter is not required to use bottled ink with this pen. Instead, dipping the nib into a bottle of ink and turning the piston knob will suck ink directly into the body. This gives the pen an enormous ink capacity, and makes refilling the pen quite an enjoyable activity.
In terms of design, the body of this pen is faceted in an aesthetically pleasing diamond pattern. Apart from being a beautiful design, the clear body also makes it very to tell how much ink is left at a glance. It’s also great for showing off brightly coloured inks. Furthermore, steel nib is smooth and quite wet, and matches the accents well. These details make for a pen that looks great and performs just as well.
Additionally, if you’re a fan of this pen, a great accessory would be the TWSBI Diamond 50 ink bottle. After removing the nib, the Diamond Mini fountain pen can be attached directly to this bottle. This makes it very easy to achieve a complete fill.

The first time I saw TWSBIs, I didn’t think I’d ever be into demonstrators. Gold has never been my colour of choice either; I only wanted minimalist black pens. However, learning about fountain pens led to me developing an interest in all sorts of new designs and aesthetics, and this gold Mini AL is now one of my favourites. The EF nib is perfect (although I’ll add that I only use premium inks for this one) and the size is ideal for my small hands. I usually use it without posting the cap. The grip can get uncomfortable during longer writing sessions, if I find myself gripping too tightly, but using FPs has also been a lesson in learning proper writing technique, and a gentle touch solves the problem. This TWSBI is now my pen of choice when I want the whole fountain pen experience – good paper, beautiful ink, a spectacular instrument. And now I want more of them.
