TWSBI Diamond 580AL
The TWSBI Diamond 580AL is a piston filling pen. This means that a converter is not required to use bottled ink with this pen. Instead, dipping the nib into a bottle of ink and turning the piston knob will suck ink directly into the body. This gives the pen an enormous ink capacity, and makes refilling the pen quite an enjoyable activity.
The body of this pen is faceted in an aesthetically pleasing diamond pattern. This is where the “Diamond” in the name comes from. Apart from being a beautiful design, the clear body also makes it very easy to tell how much ink is left at a glance. It’s also great for showing off brightly coloured inks. Along with the metal accents on the cap, grip section, and around the piston knob, the Diamond 580AL Lava also features a grip section and piston rod made of orange anodised aluminium. The steel nib is smooth and quite wet, and matches these accents well. These details make for a pen that looks great and performs just as well.
Finally, if you’re a fan of this pen, a great accessory would be the TWSBI Diamond 50 ink bottle. After removing the nib, the Diamond 580AL fountain pen can be attached directly to this bottle. This makes it very easy to achieve a complete fill.

Wow. This pen is seriously cool. The pen is the same size as the Twsbi Eco. Being manufactured from Aluminium it is a bit heavier too. The pen barrel is faceted so that light casts beautiful patterns on the mechanism. The facets also create the same effect as a wine glass fringe with the ink. The Aluminium mechanism is really well made and works effortlessly. The Aluminium is anodised a burnt orange colour, very nice. The pen writes as well as it looks. I’m using a medium nib and J Herbin Emerald of Chivor ink.
