This ink is so beautiful on paper, and it sheens exactly as advertised. The ink is very very high maintenance though, while filling up pens, this ink seems to just get everywhere. It’s also a very difficult ink to fully clean out of a fountain pen, I found that I had to flush out my pen more often when it was inked up with this ink. Smudging seems to be a big problem with this ink. Compared to my other inks, it just seems to smudge so much easier. That being said, I do use this ink mostly for writing letters just because of how beautiful the ink is and how mesmerizing the sheen looks.
You just have to decide if the beauty is worth the hassle.

Walk in customer, Bought this ink to add to my collection. Initially didnt like any form of shimmering, shading or sheening inks. I guess this was because I didnt understand the concept. This ink is amazing, beautiful in its own right. The only issue is that its a little on the thick side so it takes some tweaking to get the ink to flow perfectly. A little tap before starting to avoid a dry start etc.

Sheen Machine is the monster sheener you’ve always wanted. And great value for money.
Yes – a little more high maintenance with rinsing a fountain pen, but a much more stable sheen ink from KWZ compared to some other boutique ink makers with sheen options. My Best buy of 2019.

The sheen on this ink is incredible, but because of the high sheen it does smudge. I would recommend using a hand guard – and it does take extra effort to clean, but the sheen on this ink makes it worth the extra effort. It really does flip from blue to pink, and sometimes you can even get some light blue as well. Unique ink

WARNING!
This is the perfect GATEWAY ink to getting hooked on KWZ inks!
My spiral into KWZ addiction went like this:
• “Well that’s an interesting colour” – when first seeing a bluish pinkish colour on a “pusher’s” Insta.
• “Okay, I’ve seen this a few times now, what is this ink?”
• “KWZ ink, never heard of them, why would I try a no name?”
• “Wow, I’ve seen that again and again, that really looks interesting. Oh, its called “sheen”, well there are a lot of finicky draw backs to this ink (smearing, dry time, etcetera.).”
• “Let me just try it once – what could go wrong?”
WOW, A WHEE WOW!!!
What an ink Sheen Machine is, and like an addict I chased and am still chasing that “high”…
It led me to try “Thief’s Red” – a gorgeous red, that held a little unexpected secret – “a scented ink? WHAT!”
Green #3 – “are you telling me there are more colours!?”
Warsaw Dreaming! – “What even is a Warsaw? Oh, it is a city in Poland. Oh, the geniuses behind the ink come from Poland. Oh, this is NOW my favourite black ink, and I’m gonna be using it in my daily everyday carry.”
Who are these people?
Konrad Wojciech Å»urawski (get it, K. W. Z.?) and his wife Agnieszka Å»urawska, from Poland, are scientists who hand make their inks, after strenuous experimenting and real life testing (they are fellow fountain pen addicts and Konrad apparently wasn’t happy with the existing options and decided to make his own inks! How cool is that?!).
Now that’s a story I can get behind, what aspirational and inspirational people!
To those detractors of Sheen Machine:
• Yes it stains pens – easy fix, eyedropper a Preppy or Prefounte (well done Write Gear for offering an eyedropper converter kit). It’s cheap, it can be a dedicated pen for Sheen Machine, and the volumes are ridiculous – my two cents from the peanut gallery, get anything above a 0.5 or Medium – you wanna see the ink be lathered onto your canvas of choice.
• Yes it can be messy – wear your inky stained hands as a badge of honour.
• Yes it takes a while to dry and it might still smear again in the future – well, embrace the serendipity and admire the “happy little accident”.
But in addition:
• All of these inks are satisfyingly “wet”.
• Some are scented!
• And most importantly, they are extremely good value for money (I’ll take Green #3, at a third of the price, over my previous favourite, Graf von Faber Castell Moss Green, any day of the week).
But my ultimate reason for advocating one to try a new ink (it doesn’t have to be one of these) is that it led me on a process of discovery, and all of the above has led me to one of my current favourite ink makers. Could they be one of your favourites too?
And I’m not even near the glorious rock bottom of the KWZ inks rabbit hole, there are Iron Gall inks to try, there are unusual colours with crazy-curiosity-inspiring names like “Rotten Green” to try (hopefully it doesn’t have the scent), and having gotten to know a little bit of the story of KWZ inks I am sure that Konrad and Agnieszka are coming up with new, interesting, never before seen ideas and inks, that I can’t wait to try.
Thank you Jamie, Jesse, Alicia, Dorcas and all the “pushers” at Write Gear.
I cant wait for my next “fix” and KWZ ink “high”…

Certainly lives up to its name and sheens incredibly. I know when I reach for this bottle of ink I’m about to stain everything it comes into contact with. Once you accept this, your adventure begins as this ink is fantastic for
Doodling as
It has beautiful chromatography hidden beneath that sheen.
