Platinum Mixable Ink Recipes – Week 4

Platinum Mixable Inks Series Banner

For Inktober 2018 we have decided to have some fun with Platinum Mixable Inks. Platinum Mixable Inks have been created to be mixed with each other without any adverse side effects such as the ink become corrosive or clogging in your pen. We wanted to see if for everyday of October we could create a different ink colour that we enjoyed and then get the Write GEAR community to come up with a great name for it (Thank you to everyone on Instagram and Facebook that contribute to the naming process). This is the second in a series of blog posts where we will give the ink recipes for each one.

It is week four and this week we are not diluting or adding black we are back to making whichever colours come to our heads. Here are the ones we managed to conjure up this week:

Ink Recipe 22
Recipe TWENTY TWO: NAMIB RAIN

1.5ml Flame Red

0.5ml Earth Brown

8 drops of Smoke Black

This is a wonderful shade of brown red. It is definitely more red then brown and has a hint of pink in some of the parts. It’s a great colour for those looking for a serious looking red.

Recipe TWENTY THREE: TRANQUIL BLUE

1ml Aqua Blue

0.5ml Smoke Black

2 drops Sunny Yellow

This is a nice teal colour. It isn’t too light or too dark. In a wet pen it comes out nice and saturated and with a dryer pen has some shading. I think I prefer using Aqua Blue to make teal colour inks than the Aurora Blue.

Recipe TWENTY FOUR: SHEPHERDS GREEN

1ml Sunny Yellow

6 drops of Leaf Green

1 drop of Smoke Black

I just love how this one turned out. I really like green inks and this shade is just beautiful. Has lots of shading, is a beautiful shade of green and just looks gorgeous on the page. This is a definite keeper

Recipe TWENTY FIVE: TANGERINE SUNSCREEN

1 part Sunny Yellow

1 part Cyclamen Pink

Oh my!! Look how bright this colour is. It is so bright and saturated and hard to know how you would describe the orange that has resulted. It is in your face and it’s great!! Everyone needs an ink that looks like it wants to jump off the page and this is one of them. Thank you Sharon for recipe suggestion. 🙂

Recipe TWENTY SIX: WIFI GREEN

1.8ml Water

0.8ml Aqua Blue

0.5ml Leaf Green

0.4ml Aurora Blue

1 drop of Smoke Black

The most complex recipe so far. The image doesn’t quite capture the colour. It isn’t overly saturated but is a nice shade of blue green. Goes quite well with the Platinum Kumpoo 🙂

Recipe TWENTY SEVEN: TRANSYLVANIA NIGHTS

1 part Smoke Black

1 part Earth Brown

1 part Flame Red

This is a really interesting and strange colour. It is more brown than red but there is definitely red hues in the colour. Nice if you are looking for something dark and unique.

Recipe TWENTY EIGHT: STARLESS NIGHT

1 part Silky Purple

1 part Smoke Black

Such a simple recipe and yet it achieved exactly what I was hoping. I went looking for a super dark colour (almost black) with a nice purple hue. This colour does not disappoint. It is exactly like the same suggests, a dark starless night. A very nice colour.

That concludes week four of our Platinum Mixable Ink recipes. There are some really nice colours in this weeks recipes. If you want something seriously bright then Recipe 25 is a keeper. If you want a really nice green then 24 is amazing and if you want something rich and dark then 28 is great. All in all we are happy with this weeks recipes. Which ink recipe is your favourite?
