When you are purchasing a new pen, ink, notebook (or anything in fact) do you check the product review? Do you check the number of stars that product has, what comments people have written about it, whether people really love it or really hate it, or what they like or dislike about the item? I know I do. In fact, I love reading reviews. I find them so helpful when deciding when I want to purchase something new.Â
That is why we are running a competition where every item you review is an entry to win the Platinum #3667 Century Bundle set. We want to encourage you to take a bit of time out of your busy day to review some of the products that you have bought. Your reviews will help other fountain pen enthusiasts decide on the next pen they will own, or the next ink they are going to try out.Â
Now the reality is that we don’t want to have lots of false reviews on items that people haven’t even bought just so they can enter the competition. We know this defeats the purpose of the review system. Therefore we are only accepting verified reviews (i.e. reviews for products that you have actually purchased from https://writegear.co.za) as entries into the competition. We are also looking for honest reviews, which means that each review is one entry regardless if it is a 1-star, 3-star or 5-star review.Â
All verified reviews on products on our site between today, 5 March 2020 and 30 April 2020 will be entered into the competition to win a Platinum #3776 Century GT Fountain Pen, Platinum GT Converter, Platinum Ink Bottle and Dreyer and Dreyer Pen pouch. We will do the draw on the 5th of May and let the winner know on that day.Â
Review Tips
- Be Disciplined: You want to base your review on the specific item you are reviewing and not on the whole experience you have had which could include many different items purchased.Â
- Be Specific: If you really like an item or really dislike an item, be specific about what it is that you liked or disliked. This will help people who may or may not be interested in your dislike of the design of the clip, or your love of the smell of the ink, etc.
Terms
- Every verified product review is a single entry into the competition.
- A verified review is a review for a product that you have purchased from our store (https://writegear.co.za). This requires you to be logged in with the same account that you made the purchase.
- Only reviews placed from the 5th of March 2020 to the 30th of April 2020 will be included as entries into the competition.
- Winner will be chosen at random from all the verified entries on the 5th of May 2020.
- The prize is not redeemable for cash or coupon.

One question though – if you have the same pen in different colours (and you’re not reviewing the colour of the pen) can you post the same review on another version of the pen? Example if I have a positive review of Kaweco AL Sport and have it in two different colours, can I post it on both?

Yea sure. Maybe you could mention something about the colour as well as just adding something slightly unique to each review. Otherwise yes keep it the same. đŸ™‚
This is a great way to encourage people to leave reviews! I agree that I also sometimes rely on other’s opinions before buying pens since I don’t always have the opportunity to see the pen in person before buying. Perhaps a few times I’ve wished someone had warned me or put my mind at ease with a review before a purchase. So I’ve decided to participate in this competition not only for the great prize, but because helping a fellow pen nerd is always a great thing!
As roshaimulder says, this is an excellent way to encourage reviews. I *always* check reviews before I make a purchase, so it’s a bit hypocritical of me to avoid writing them. Also, I clearly need an ‘excuse’ to buy more stuff, which this surely is. đŸ™‚
I do agree, reviews are a necessity for on-line shopping, and especially more so for something so personal and tactile as fountain pens and ink.
So to assist my fellow pen nerds and journalers and other stationery enthusists, I will post a few reviews too.
Great price up for grabs. I am one that like to do some research before buying an item and do depend on reviews to assist me in making an educated decision. A positive or negative review can be a dealbreaker.
I think that the question is what would you like me to review? I only use fountain pens (mostly montnlancs/cross/lamy )but have used pretty much all of them, and write about 18 pages (Fullscap) per day. Thats a lot of penwork and poor pens fall by the wayside (mostly Parkers which I no longer buy). Choose a pen for me at a reasonable price and i’ll buy it and review.
I fell in love with writing at a young age (after I was grounded for putting a golf ball through the kitchen window). Writing with a fountain pen always makes writing more enjoyable and my favorite pen is the Kaweco sports fountain pen, the light weight, reliable nib and compact design make it my favorite pen for work and travel. I bought a black one, with brass clip last year, along with spare ink and I been very happy using it. Thank you writegear
Alas! I haven’t bought any fountain pens from you (yet) but I do have a whole bunch… Ah well! And agree, reviews are very helpful, especially if you aren’t able to see the pen in person or try it out beforehand.
