Lots of good stuff comes from France. David Guetta, a deep paranoid suspicion of authority, and slap chips. Oh, and don’t forget about Rhodia notepads.
In true Gallic fashion, Rhodia embodies socialist chic: heavy, smooth paper that isn’t afraid of soaking up ink; quality at an affordable price (I’m looking at you Moleskine, I’m not touching another one of your diaries at that price unless it’s made from an actual mole’s skin…and the mole was made of gold.); and iconically chic in that awesome orange cover. Love, love, love that practical joint on the cover allowing you to fold the cover back on itself.
Yes, orange was the color of the most widely available cardstock at the time but so what? The TARDIS was originally a mini-jail quite common in British society (Seriously, the cop would lock you inside while waiting for backup. Those weren’t bigger on the inside.). I especially like the fact that the logo of two trees linked by a line represents the two brothers who founded the company (with the bigger tree being the older brother).
In 500 years time, no one will ever know about your proustian collection on Facebook of photographed meals, or musings on whether or not the world truly needs another Battlestar Galactica reboot so soon after the last one. It’s not so much that we’ll be living in Waterworld for real by then with no Internet, but more that Kevin Costner will be able to dive down into the ocean to what will then be your old house in Roodepoort and retrieve that super high quality Rhodia notebook of yours.
And the world will, once again, know of your supreme inability to draw boobs.
Buy Rhodia, live forever.
