As a beginner fountain pen enthusiast there were two pens i came across when i first started looking into this hobby, they were the Lamy Safari and the Kaweco Sport. Both are great pens for any beginner as well as anyone looking for everyday writers, the little Kaweco Sport however is the ideal quintessential pocket pen that never goes out of style and everyone who buys one will own a small piece of fountain pen history.
The size of the pen is perfect for everyday carry or travel, i have large hands but when the cap is posted it sits quite comfortably in my hand and even though it’s not meant to be used without posting i’m still able to use it without the cap posted and find i can play around with it more freely with line variation in detailed illustrations.
I have quite small handwriting and use my pens for pen & ink or linework illustration so i chose the EF nib and find it’s very smooth with great ink flow and no skipping issues. Even though it’s a very small pen and obviously can’t hold much ink it seems to last a long time on the Kaweco cartridges, although this may be dependent on the nib used.
Overall i can’t find fault with my Kaweco Sport, the grey is understated yet timeless, i love the faceted cap with the Kaweco logo button on top, it’s perfect for jotting notes or quick sketches. There are more expensive versions made of better materials but if you’re unsure of the size or if it’s right for you the affordable and very robust plastic Kaweco Sport is a great starting point with a colour for everyone.
