Kaweco SKETCH UP Pencil Brass Raw
Kaweco has been producing all kinds of mechanical pencils since the beginning of the 19th century.
The Kaweco clutch pencils have become very popular in the fifties, the heyday of technical drawing. Until this very day clutch pencils of the SKETCH UP series have been a pleasure to draw with. The most appreciated drawing tools are available in satin-chromed or in the living raw material brass.

Awesome little pencil. Has a nice chunky solid feel to it. Fits my hands perfectly but I have small hands. People with bigger hands might find this pencil too small. There’s no cap so there’s no way to post it to make it longer. The pencil is 101 mm in length without the lead exposed.
Made of brass its heavier than most pencils but, unlike longer heavy pens/pencils where the weight forces the point upwards off the page, the length of this pencil shifts the weight downwards towards the point.
A nice feature is the integrated sharpener. Unlike normal sharpeners where there is a sharp blade, this sharpener has 4 metal “blades” that taper to a point like a pyramid. The “blades” don’t look like they are sharpened like normal sharpeners but it looks like the edges of the metal “blades” are sharp the way an edge of a thick square piece of metal is sharp.

A great workhorse pencil that i use for sketching or shading large areas, it’s intended purpose, until i found that it’s also incredibly handy while doing woodwork.
It makes a great marking tool and is easily sharpened with the integrated sharpener in the little metal cap, plus being made of brass means it’s strong. If used for sketching the 5.6mm lead is nice for bold, energetic linework.
The construction and fit and finish is impeccable, weight and feel in hand is very nice, having large hands i did worry if it would be a bit small but for me and how i use it i don’t have any issues, when sketching i think the modest size helps with easily playing around with how i’m gripping it, lends itself to free form.
I love the brass body, which is terribly tactile and has developed a gorgeous patina since i got but because it’s raw brass it will make your fingers smell, something to keep in mind if your new to brass.
