The 1670 Collection celebrates the rich life and adventures of J. Herbin, an enterprising French sailor of the mid-17th century. He made a number of voyages to India, collecting ingredients and formulas for his sealing wax and inks. He began making pen inks in his Paris workshop beginning in 1700 with the “Ink of Ships” and the “Jewel of Inks.” Today, Herbin inks are widely used and internationally renown.

I cannot wait until this is in stock again to order a whole bottle. This is a lovely red ink with more orange than blue tones. The best about this is the olive green sheen that it has and then the golden shimmer sets that the 1670 range apart. It is a wet ink and performs like a charm in a medium as well as broad / bold nib. (I have only tested it in the two sizes thus far so I can’t say anything about finer nibs). It washes out completely and I’ve not had any feed or nib clogging with it. Along with some of the other 1670 inks this is one of my top 5 favourite inks.

If ever you wanted to write a letter that people will remember, this is the ink to use. it has shimmer, so only very wet nibs will be suitable. It is red, with gold and olive streaks, as well as the shimmer. The ink shows quite a lot of shading, which comes out especially with large blocks of writing. This is my ink of choice for formal thank-you letters to people. Though pricy, it is well worth the cost.
